On 19th March 2026, during the 9th European Steering Committee<\/strong>, the partners of LIFE GREEN SHEEP<\/strong> had the opportunity to visit a Roquefort-producing farm involved in the project. Located on the Larzac plateau, GAEC d\u2019Egali\u00e8res<\/strong> shows that it is possible to combine high-performing dairy sheep farming<\/strong> with agroecological practices and<\/strong>\u00a0organic farming.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Managing a flock of 250 Lacaune dairy ewes, Laurent Reversat has been relying since 2021 on LIFE GREEN SHEEP diagnostics<\/strong>, together with the support of Beno\u00eet Nougad\u00e8re from the livestock department of the Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Roquefort<\/strong>, to assess and improve his farming practices.<\/p>\n

In a context of limited forage availability during the summer, the objective is clear: maintain milk yield and quality while reducing the farm\u2019s environmental footprint<\/strong>. The first diagnostic already revealed a highly virtuous system, with 100% feed self-sufficiency<\/strong> and carbon emissions fully offset by extensive pastoral areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To go further, several levers have been activated: improved selection of replacement ewe lambs to enhance milk quantity and quality, optimised manure management to limit nitrogen losses (manure covering and bedding inoculation), reduced use of concentrates (\u201312%<\/strong>), and improved forage quality through the planned installation of a barn drying system from 2027<\/strong>. The result is a more resilient production system, with milk yield maintained at 330 litres per ewe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
