To finish <\/span>with<\/span> this<\/span> round table, <\/span>could<\/span> each<\/span> of <\/span>you<\/span> say<\/span> a <\/span>word<\/span> on <\/span>what<\/span> do <\/span>we<\/span> need<\/span> to <\/span>upscale<\/span>\u202f<\/span>this<\/span> initiative<\/span> ?\u202f(<\/span>in<\/span> terms<\/span> of <\/span>skills<\/span>, <\/span>human<\/span> and <\/span>financial<\/span> means<\/span>, <\/span>methods<\/span>..)<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Tailored<\/span> advice<\/span> and extension to <\/span>farmers<\/span> so<\/span> they<\/span> can <\/span>identify<\/span> the right <\/span>measures<\/span> in the right place. <\/span>Some<\/span> measures<\/span> are profit <\/span>enhancing<\/span> some<\/span> are not.\u00a0 <\/span>Some<\/span> may<\/span> involve<\/span> learning<\/span> new <\/span>skills<\/span> or practices <\/span>that<\/span> may<\/span> be<\/span> a hard <\/span>sell<\/span> to <\/span>some<\/span> farmers<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>Generally<\/span> speaking<\/span>, <\/span>targeting<\/span> of <\/span>measures<\/span> with<\/span> either<\/span> a <\/span>carrot<\/span>, stick or <\/span>education<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Economic support to implement innovation. Also to arise concern about the importance of sheep farming either between stakeholders and to the society, (farmers sometimes feel unrecognized and mistreated by the society, which, in their opinion, has not a relistic view of the sector), and so to enhance the self-esteem of sheep farmers.\u00a0\u00a0In order to implement innovation in other areas, it is crucial that the innovations proposed have been previously and succesfully tested, there is a clear protocol and the resources required to implement it, as well as qualified technical support involved in the objective.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

As with other topics (e.g. animal welfare), the economic incentive guaranteed to the farmers who take certain actions on their farms, is often the greatest incentive. But it is also true that if a massive and well-articulated informative intervention with widespread dissemination of these topics is not first carried out, a real and conscious interest will never be achieved, since, unfortunately, for many farmers the CC topic <\/span>appears to be<\/span> little or not at all clear and\/or known.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Financial <\/span>incentives<\/span> and <\/span>farm<\/span> profitability<\/span> are the best and <\/span>sometimes<\/span> the <\/span>only<\/span> efficient drivers. There <\/span>is<\/span> a <\/span>need<\/span> to <\/span>stimulate<\/span> the associations or RD <\/span>units<\/span> to <\/span>take<\/span> over the <\/span>roles<\/span> of the former public <\/span>advisory<\/span> system (<\/span>dismantled<\/span> 10+ <\/span>years<\/span> ago<\/span>) or to <\/span>stimulate<\/span> the <\/span>development<\/span> of the <\/span>private<\/span> advisory<\/span> system, in <\/span>order<\/span> to help <\/span>upscaling<\/span> multiplication of the <\/span>knowledge<\/span> transfer<\/span> and <\/span>technology<\/span> transfer<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

That’s<\/span> what<\/span> we<\/span> need<\/span> to <\/span>work<\/span> on as part of the C5 action <\/span>coming<\/span> at the end of the <\/span>project<\/span>, <\/span>intitled<\/span><\/span> \u201c<\/span><\/span>Development<\/span> of national French\/Irish\/<\/span>Italian<\/span>\/<\/span>Romanian<\/span>\/<\/span>Spanish<\/span> Green <\/span>Sheep<\/span> action plans<\/span>\u201d<\/span> to <\/span>reduce<\/span> the <\/span>meat<\/span>\/<\/span>milk<\/span> sheep<\/span> carbon<\/span> footprint<\/span> by 12% and a relevant partnership <\/span>strategy<\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
