March 18\u201319, 2026 | Montpellier, Occitanie & Aveyron<\/p>\n

On 18 and 19 March 2026<\/strong>, France hosted a European Steering Committee of the LIFE Green Sheep project<\/strong>, bringing together delegations from France, Spain, Ireland and Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This two\u2011day meeting combined strategic discussions<\/strong>, scientific exchanges<\/strong> and field visits<\/strong>, illustrating the project\u2019s strong link between research, advisory work and on\u2011farm reality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Day 1 \u2013 Strategic discussions in Montpellier (March 18)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The first day took place in Montpellier<\/strong> and focused on the final phase of the LIFE Green Sheep project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Discussions addressed:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • National carbon action plans<\/strong> and preparation of the post\u2011project phase<\/strong>,<\/li>\n
  • Presentation of the first European environmental results<\/strong>, identifying the main drivers of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions<\/strong> in sheep systems,<\/li>\n
  • Progress of the second wave of farm assessments<\/strong>, with the objective of comparing both assessments and estimating CO\u2082 emissions avoided<\/strong>,<\/li>\n
  • Preliminary results of carbon action plans (simulations)<\/strong>, highlighting mitigation practices related to:\n
      \n
    • herd management,<\/li>\n
    • feed and grassland management,<\/li>\n
    • energy use,<\/li>\n
    • manure management,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Ongoing communication and dissemination actions<\/strong>, including the preparation of the final LIFE Green Sheep seminar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      This day confirmed the importance of combining environmental performance with economic and technical efficiency<\/strong>, and of providing advisors and farmers with practical, system\u2011based solutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Day 2 \u2013 Field visits in Occitanie and Aveyron (March 19)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      The second day was dedicated to on\u2011farm visits<\/strong>, offering participants a concrete view of project results in real farming conditions.<\/p>\n

      Meat sheep farming \u2013 Larzac plateau<\/h4>\n

      In the morning, participants visited the GAEC du Moulin du Tironant<\/strong> in Roqueredonde (H\u00e9rault)<\/strong>, a meat sheep farm managed by the Albaniac family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
