Today we move to the south of Sardinia, to a particularly evocative area for its landscape and vegetation, very close to the famous “Piscinas” dunes. Here we meet Michela Dessì, a young sheep and cattle farmer, graduated in Economics, who chose to work in her family’s livestock business. Michela is a Greensheep partner and her farm is one of 16 Sardinian farms where, in addition to the analysis of environmental impacts, simulated mitigation strategies were proposed and then applied. Michela agreed to participate in the project eager to understand what the environmental impacts of her company are, the critical points of her production system, and how to improve her situation. With the analysis we conducted, we found that the management of the ovine sector was very good, but there were critical issues in the management of the cattle farming, which, with a turnaround rate unbalanced relative to the total herd size, was placing a significant burden on the farm’s emissions. We thus suggested reducing the return rate. The farmer then implemented a second suggestion, namely the installation of a photovoltaic system that guaranteed the farm’s energy self-sufficiency; in this way we intervened on both environmental and economic aspects.
