The Latxa flock that Neiker has on the Campus of Arkaute participates as an innovative dairy flock in the LIFE GREEN SHEEP project. Withih the framework of the project, a Low Carbon Action Plan has been designed to mitigate the environmental impact and to improve sustainability. Specifically, the goal is to reduce the carbon footprint over 12%, as well as improving other environmental aspects such as soil health and fertility, grass production, etc.
But above all, Neiker wants to share the experience, and for this reason this open day activity has been organised aimed at sheep farmers, advisors and stakeholders of the sheep sector, mainly from the Latxa sheep production system, although it is also open to those from other sheep systems.
During the visit, the flock will be presented, the facilities and main equipment available to measure enteric methane emissions, as well as the innovative management practices implemented to achieve the goal.
