How can sheep farmers improve their technical, economic and environmental efficiency at the same time? In Spain, LIFE Green Sheep partners have published a set of documents presenting the results of ArdiCarbon environmental assessments carried out on meat sheep farms in Aragon and dairy sheep farms in Castilla y León (2021 data), together with the first results of farms that implemented carbon action plans.

A diagnostic and step-by-step approach

In Spain, around 70 dairy and 40 meat sheep farms took part in the project. Each farm followed the same four-step approach: an environmental assessment with ArdiCarbon, the tool developed by NEIKER, or CAP’2ER®; a presentation of the results by the adviser to identify areas for improvement; an action plan built together with the farmer; and the implementation and monitoring of the chosen practices.

The documents include two information sheets, one for meat and one for dairy sheep, and detailed reference sheets by farming system.
